Duvet covers are always equipped with a closure mechanism, such as buttons or zippers. Some are available with various ornamental decorations that add elegance and texture to them, such as embroidery, ribbons, or buttons, while others are plain. Duvet covers with pleats, ruching, and flocking are examples of various decorations that may be seen on high-quality bedding. Similarly, pleating is a form of fold that is created by folding fabric over itself while ruching is a procedure created by gathering little ripples in the fabric together. Flocking is the deposit of microscopic particles on the surface of a cloth.

As polyester is made from a petrochemical, it's not biodegradable like natural untreated fabrics. It can also shed plastic microfibres when washed which can end up in our rivers and seas.

Brushed cotton can also be called flannel or flannelette, though there is a difference. A brushed cotton fabric is only brushed on the face side. Flannel or Flannelette fabric is brushed on both sides.

 Thread count is another important factor to consider when choosing flannel sheets.  While the higher the thread count of regular cotton sheets, the better the quality, with flannel sheets, this is less important.  Instead, focus on the fabric weight and overall feel of your bed sheets to gauge their quality.
